Luigi cafe and restaurant
Luigi is a modern & friendly café/restaurant centrally located. The name sounds Italian and you will get a good plate of pasta here, and pizzas, but they have a great selection of other food, burgers, salads, crab cakes and great puddings too. Very decent selection of wines. Very good for coffee and home-made cakes.
Our advice: Book in advance!
Mara at Links House
Named for the Scottish Gaelic for ‘The Sea’ Mara is a true celebration of the best of Scotland’s larder. With a seasonal menu this it the best fine dining around. Everything is ethically sourced from trusted local suppliers. The Kitchen team has curated a menu, inspired by the land and sea that surround us. And they have a great selection of drinks.
Our advice: Try their French Martini with your meal.
Coach House bar and restaurant
Overlooking Dornoch Square the Coach House is a great place for place for a drink, snack or full meal. Great pub food, tried and tested many times with quality ingredients. The Mackay family own and run the bar and restaurant, the local butchers and farmland in the area so the food is as local as you can get. The resulting dishes give you great value and generous portions.
Our advice: Don’t forget the deserts.

Castle Restaurant
The restaurant at Dornoch Castle Hotel is well known for serving local produce of high quality with a friendly and efficient service.
Their continually changing menus have been created to showcase some of the great local produce in the area. With products from Dornoch Distillery several local suppliers such as Bogrow Farm, Tain Fine Cheese & Cromarty Brewery.
Our advice : Try some of their sides & sharing dishes or check out the pizza.
The Eagle Hotel
The Eagle does great pub food. Centrally located, it’s a very busy pub and restaurant. After a long day get yourself down. The Eagle for some locally sourced and wholesome pub grub, and to get ‘the craic’ with the staff and other guests. They ahaeve a great range of real ales and over fifty malt whiskeys to try.
Our advice: Try their great Scottish breakfast, with porridge and local haggis.
Takeaways and cafes
Surf and Turf
New to Dornoch, this takeaway with some seating is a must try. Surf and Turfs locally sourced produce, showcases the best Highland beef, lobster, scallops, venison and haddock. From smash burgers to venison hot dogs, lobster mac & cheese and spicy haddock tacos they have something for everyone. They do Fresh lobsters in a tank if you fancy something different.
Our advice :The lobster roll is fabulous.
Milk and Honey
Milk and Honey is a great café in the cente of town. They have a wide range of breakfast options from our homemade granola to the Full Scottish with everything in between! Two different homemade soups to choose from every day, and a vanity of lunch options. And a great selection of freshly baked cakes.
Our advice: Try the smashed avocado on toast with some Eteaket tea but leave room for the cakes!
Cocoa Mountain
A great locally owned shop selling hot and cold drinks, home baked cakes and chocolates lots of chocolates! Cocoa Mountain have simple aim to produce the most delicious, fresh, and innovative chocolates on the planet. You can even get a cuppa served with their chocolates. And it’s an ideal place to get gifts to take home.
Our Advice: They do the best hot chocolate this side of Inverness.
The Highland Larder
The Highland Larder provides a range of food and drink in the ‘overflow’ car park of Dornoch beach. There are picnic tables and chairs if you want to eat on site, or you can take them to enjoy on the beach. Choose from barista coffee, tea, ‘real’ lemonade, delicious cakes, toasties and a full seafood menu.
Our advice; Try their great coffee on the beach.
The Angry Seagull Fish + Chips
The Angry Seagull is a highly rated local chip shop located at Dornoch Retail Park. It is one of the few places praised for serving proper homemade chips alongside fresh Scrabster-landed haddock.. They have a wide selection of chip shop classics.
Our advice; Try their mushy peas with the haddock supper.
Further afield
The Trawler in Golspie, has recently been voted THE BEST fish and chip shop in Scotland. They do homemade tartare sauce with the fish. And along the coast there is La Mirage in Helmsdale. It’s has a quirky interior, well worth a visit, The Pier in Lairg has a lovely setting, with fabulous food, and amazing cakes.
Our advice: Try La Mirages delicious meringues the size of footballs!
